A Lady or A Tramp
Dedication
To every teenager girl who has ever felt pressured by
their peers to do something they felt innately out of character
for doing.
Know that you wil always have yourself, but friends will
ebb and flow. Stay true to yourself and never lose your
purpose in life.
The older you get, the wiser you wil get, and you wil see
who is there for you, no matter how cool or not cool you are.

When the pasta sauce started running down my leg, dinner
was ruined, and I knew it. I only wanted to please Jimmy. I thought
showing him how much I loved him was a sure bet to make him
stay. Why did I al ow my confidence to be shaken when I knew he
wasn't leaving, anyway? Listening to those girls was the worst thing
I've ever done in my life. Now I feel humiliated beyond words.
Let me rewind a little so you can get the complete picture of
why I thought I needed to throw myself at this sweet boy who
always stood by my side. Why I thought the boy who promised
himself to me until marriage and I to him would walk away from
me. Why I felt I had to change when he never asked for it.
Before Jimmy, my life was bleak. Focused, determined, I
mean, I never thought it was pathetic because I was on my way to
being the youngest chiropractor in history. On top of being the
youngest, I would also be one of the few females in the field to
kick ass and take names. Most Chiropractors are male because of
their size, but what a man can do, a woman can do better if you ask
me.
Before high school, I stayed in my books; I didn't leave them.
I thought middle school was a bore because it was beneath me, not
in a snobbish way, just I had things to do and sitting around
hanging out with friends. Drama and boys were not part of the
plan. When I got to high school, it excited me to get into my field
and one step away from carrying out my dreams.

Little did I know that during the summer of freshman year,
Jimmy would change my entire world. What started off with a
simple glance turned into a whole life together. I have never been
crazy for boys, girls, or any gender. I stil don't look at anyone that
way, just Jimmy. Drama and hanging out, no, thank you. Jimmy,
wel , he had me at hel o.
Dating Jimmy has been the delight of my high school life. I
never thought I could get a guy like him, but here I am dating the
High School footbal star. We both head off to college next year,
and life wil be different, but we have made a promise to stay in
touch and visit often. Our colleges wil be an hour apart. Thank
God for the stars aligning on that one. We wil see each other on
the weekends and during the breaks. If either of us has an
emergency, we can support each other. Sure, Jimmy wil be away a
lot touring the world playing footbal , and I wil be in my books
studying away, but that wil not differ from high school.
Tonight, my lover boy is coming over for dinner. I'm cooking
to celebrate the team's upcoming division game. All the guys have
worked their butts off this season to get into the playoffs, and they
are final y watching their dream come true. Not only are these wins
fantastic for the school and team, but this is helping the players
themselves be seen for scholarships. Jimmy had his scholarship in
the summer of his sophomore year. Still, he never stopped working
harder and harder every change he got.

I've always cooked with my mom or grandma in the kitchen,
but never for Jimmy. Since I was little, they have taught me to
cook. Not in like the archaic way that women must cook for a man,
but it was something that we loved doing together. My family has
always been close. While they love the traditional roles, Jimmy and
I support each other and do what is needed vs. what is expected.
I can't believe when I was a freshman, I pined over this dark-
skinned boy who was skinny enough to fit through bike rack rails,
yet his physique had me weak in the knees. His dreamy caramel
eyes cal ed to me when he glanced my way. His side profile showed
you a glimpse of his strong jawline, which always seemed to flex
like he was in deep thought. I could stand in a crowded room, and
our eyes always met. His crooked smile came to life when he
looked at me. I knew one day we would be together.
My studies and sports kept us apart until senior year, but once
we collided, the stars aligned in the universe. The kids at school
have dubbed us the couple to be and succeed in the world. I never
real y cared for titles, yet this one had me immensely tickled inside.
While we don't hang out with the in-crowds, we have them all
around us a lot.
I would have never guessed to find my soul mate in school.
Heck, at least not this young. But since I have, I'm not letting him
go.

Studying to be a chiropractor and Jimmy on a ful -ride
scholarship to Texas State to play footbal is a blessing to get us
started in life. Can you imagine an NFL star and a Chiropractor
having a life together? What a life that would be. At least I could
take care of him whenever he needed me to.
I never thought that scrawny boy would be such a beefcake,
and, wel , those arms sure feel good wrapped around my tiny waist.
"Hey Jimmy, don't be late. I'm making you a good pasta
dinner tonight. I want you loaded up on carbs for the division win
this weekend." I yel across the hal way, making sure everyone
knows I'm cooking an excel ent dinner for my man tonight.
"Katey, you know how to treat your man." Jimmy echo's back
with a smile as if he already knows what's on the menu for dessert.
I reserve myself to continue with the rest of the classes. I
need to remember the recipe my mother gave me before she and
my dad headed out of town for the weekend. I am the luckiest girl
alive, that she trusts me the way she does.
For the past three years of high school, I have done nothing
other than study. I haven't attended parties, dances, or hanging out
with friends. It's been al school, and my parents have reveled in
their perfect girl. I mean, I'm not turning bad or anything, but
Jimmy is my better half, and wel , I don't need to be Ms. Perfect

with him so I can splurge just a little.
Heading out of biology class, I hear a few girls talking and
catch a sentence with Jimmy's name in it. I lean a little closer, being
careful, so they don't see me. I mean, everyone knows we're dating,
so of course, they would stop talking if they knew I was listening.
"Janine, I can't believe you're going to steal Jimmy from
Katey. You know you don't have a chance."
"Honey, please, Mrs. Goodie, two shoes can't keep a man like
that for long. He is going to want more than just some good study
time, if you know what I mean."
I couldn't keep listening to this anymore. I bound down the
hal in tears. I've known Jimmy, al of high school, and he doesn't
seem like the type of guy who would want to just sleep with girls,
but what if those skanks are right?
I can't l
ose Jimmy. He is my guy. How can I go off to col ege
knowing that he wants sex with me, and if he doesn't get it, he wil
find it with another girl? I guess I will have some extra pressure on
me tonight to make sure I do everything right.
I need to leave and skip the ninth period so I can get
something special from the store. I need to be perfect for Jimmy;
he deserves it. I can't believe this is all happening. I had everything
9

planned, and five minutes ago, my life was perfect. I need to pull
myself together. I will not let a little hiccup mess with my plans of
success. I'll just fix this like I do everything in my life. Control the
situation Katey, don't crack.
I leave school, but before I do, I text Jimmy, letting him know
I left early to get groceries. Secretly, I'm heading to the lingerie
store so I can grab something extra special for him. I'm not letting
any girl steal my man away from me. Destiny has brought us
together, and I wil keep it that way.
Finding something sexy at the lingerie store was easy. It
embarrassed me to be there since I'm a no-nonsense type of girl.
You know the type, black, gray, tan or white underwear and bra.
No lace, no silk, just cotton to keep the moisture away. I don't do
fancy, but hey, it's for Jimmy. I need to do this. Of course, the
cashier has to be a guy. My cheeks are red, but I keep Jimmy in
mind and head out of the store quickly so I can head home and
start preparing dinner.
The drive went by too fast. Everything tonight is going to go
by fast. I head upstairs, put on my lingerie to get back downstairs,
and set the scene along with getting dinner prepared.
I grab meat from the refrigerator, pop bread into the oven,
and put noodles on to boil. I'm calming down now, knowing that it
will all be okay once Jimmy is here. Something is calming about

that boy's face that makes everything better.
Finally, dinner is made, and the doorbell rings. My heart skips
quickly, then goes back into place. I open the door, and there he is,
standing in a full suit and tie. My heart does another flip and lands
in my throat. I can't believe my eyes. He looks like he is going to
prom or something, but that's not for a couple of months yet.
Jimmy steps inside the house, grabbing me by the waist,
pulling me near. I can feel the heat rush up in the pit of my soul as
he pushes his lips into mine. The moistness is so soft and beautiful.
The kiss doesn't last long, but long enough for my eyes to stay
closed a little too long. I almost forgot we needed to have dinner.
"Hey, hot stuff, you are looking fancy tonight."
"Thanks, beautiful, you don't look so bad yourself." Jimmy
winks at me, twirling me around to see the complete package.
We lock hands, and I guide him to the dinner table to sit
down. Jimmy grabs my chair and pul s it out for me like the
gentleman he is. Once we are comfortable in our chairs, we have
smal talk and eat our dinner. We are halfway through dinner when
I feel like there is no time like the present to start my action plan
and give myself to Jimmy. I don't want to just jump on him; I
know from movies that I need to lead up to it, so I have to get his
attention.

"It's a little hot in here, don't you think?" I say as I unbutton
the top two buttons of my shirt and rub my hands over my chest.
"No, I think it's fine, but if you're warm, I can turn up the air
conditioning," Jimmy says, not noticing me at al .
"No, it's okay. I'l just grab some ice and cool myself off." I
grab a piece of ice from my glass and rub it on my chest, even
putting my hands a little down my shirt, so it soaks the white shirt I
have on, and he can see my bra, just a bit.
"So, how was school today? I bet you're glad you didn't have
to have ninth period. You never did like physical classes anyway."
says Jimmy, stil not noticing me. I think that the girls have already
gotten to him. This can't be. I need to get him back.
"I am so glad that I skipped ninth period. I had to head
somewhere and grab something special. I have something to show
you." I say as I get out of my chair and move across the table
towards jimmy continuing to unbutton my shirt so I can bare my
chest in front of him. I need him to see the lingerie I had
purchased earlier in the day.
"Katey, are you okay, seriously? If you're that warm, you don't
need to get undressed. I'll get some fans in here and call your
parents. You may have a fever."

As a last-ditch effort, I take a noodle and put it between my
lips, leaning down to kiss him, thinking we could have this Lady
and The Tramp kind of moment. Still, Jimmy jumps like I'm a
crazy person, knocking over his plate of spaghetti al over me.
I take my shirt off to show him the sexy bra I bought at the
store for him while doing some kind of weird dance, but in my
head, it's sexyish. Jimmy is staring at me in shock like he has never
seen a naked woman before. I'm thinking to myself, this is a good
thing, those skanks haven't gotten to my sweet man. I feel a whole
new sense of urgency to make sure these other girls don't steal him
away.
"Woah Woah, what are you doing? Why are you acting so
strange tonight?"
"Oh, Jimmy." I cry and grab my shirt to cover myself up as I
slip down onto the floor like a blubbering idiot.
"What's wrong Katey, you can talk to me. What has happened
that has made you act so different?"
"I heard these girls talking about how they were going to steal
you from me because you would not wait forever for me to be like
al the other girls. They said I was a goodie two shoes and that with
us leaving for college in the fall, you would be fair game. I thought
it had to be now so I could show you how much I love you and

make sure you knew you were the one for me."
"Katey, why would you listen to those silly girls? You have
always been the girl for me. Do you know why I am so dressed
tonight?"
"No."
"I came here with this in my pocket."
Jimmy grabs a smal box from the inside pocket of his jacket,
and I'm mortified that I screwed everything up and he had
something exciting planned for tonight. I'm such a goof.
"I came here to give you this promise ring and to let you
know that no matter what life is going to bring us, no matter where
we are, I'm always yours, and that is my promise to you if you
promise the same to me."
"Jimmy, you are seriously the best person in the world. I love
you so much. I'm sorry for ruining our special dinner."
"Hey now, don't worry about any of this. How about you get
cleaned up, and I'll take us to our favorite spot, with a quick stop at
a drive-through for some greasy delights."
"You bet, lover boy."

I bounce off upstairs, knowing that we wil have plenty of
dinners that go to hel , but Jimmy wil always brighten it up with
his beautiful smile.
